Old Oak Harbor middle school to be torn down

A big demolition project is set to begin in Oak Harbor in the coming months. After nearly 10 years of trying to decide what to do with the middle school, the building is coming down. But that decision isn’t sitting well with everyone.

This comes after the Benton-Carroll-Salem School Board spent nearly 10 years trying to decide what should be done with the building.

“There were six different plans that this 48-member committee came up with. The first five were putting on milage at different amounts and the sixth was for the demolition. We attempted the bond. We attempted the bond and it failed and at that time, like I said, it was $13 to $15 million and we could build a new building a brand new building for less than that,” said Superintendent Cathy Bergman.
