National Book Month: 440,000 Ohio Children Receive Free Books Every Month

October is National Book Month, and it’s a great time to remind everyone of the value of reading and the possibilities books offer children to learn, explore and imagine.
In Ohio, families can celebrate the month by signing up for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Ohio, a free book-gifting program that delivers one book per month to children birth through age 5.
The programme is offered to all Ohio children birth through age 5, and young readers can access an expanding library of books at home, free of charge to their families.
More than 440,000 children are served monthly by Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Ohio, demonstrating the scope of the work to promote early reading throughout the state.
Whether it’s a new book or a classic tale, or a book written by a local author, National Book Month is a time for parents and caregivers to make reading a habit for children. Books at home can also provide opportunities for shared reading and conversations with caregivers for younger children.
Ohio families can sign up for the free monthly books program, Imagination Library.
Throughout October, as National Book Month continues, the program provides a simple way for Ohio families to celebrate: place a book in a child’s hands and allow for curiosity, imagination and a lifelong love of reading.
