Mayfield City Schools Looking to Avoid a $1.5 Million Operating Deficit this School Year Through Passage of Issue 51 on November Ballot

MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio-Voters in Mayfield Heights, Mayfield Village, Highland Heights, and Gates Mills will decide on a 5-millage operating levy for Mayfield City Schools this November. School leaders emphasize that passing the levy is crucial to avoid a $1.5 million deficit this year. The levy, if approved, would generate $7.743 million annually, helping to maintain a 5-star rated school system and fund safety enhancements, mental health services, and educational programs. The cost to taxpayers would be approximately $14.58 per month per $100,000 of property value. However, some residents, like Kathleen Gribbons, express concerns about the financial burden, especially on fixed incomes. The last levy was approved in 2016, and if this one fails, the district may face cuts.
