The former St. Agnes School building in Bond Hill, which had been unused for over 30 years, is reopening on August 14 as Xavier Jesuit Academy (XJA). This new all-boys, scholarship-funded Catholic school aims to revitalize the community. Rev. Nathan Wendt, XJA president, expressed enthusiasm about contributing to the area’s development and the success of the new school.

Key Highlight:

  • Several major Cincinnati companies are supporting Xavier Jesuit Academy with significant contributions: Kroger is providing a new kitchen, P&G is funding an art room, and GE Aerospace is setting up a STEM lab. Greg Vehr, XJA vice president, highlighted that the school aims to ensure student success and prepare them for future leadership. The school offers free or reduced tuition through private donations and Ohio’s EdChoice Vouchers.
  • Xavier Jesuit Academy benefits from a taxpayer-funded program that offers full vouchers to students from families earning up to 450% of the Federal Poverty Level. Nearly all of their students qualify for the maximum voucher. The program aims to eliminate financial and social barriers, ensuring all families can access high-quality education.
  • Xavier Jesuit Academy will open in August with an inaugural class of 45 students across third to fifth grades. Each year, 15 new third graders will be admitted until the school expands to serve grades three through eight by 2027. The academic program follows the Jesuit Nativity education model, aiming to engage and inspire students to become service-oriented individuals.
  • The Xavier Jesuit Academy will feature new classrooms along with specialized learning spaces for STEM and fine arts, and open areas to foster school identity and community. A new atrium and common spaces will enhance the environment for students, families, and the community. Malik Murray, a future fifth grader, expressed excitement about the new facilities. The campus will also be shared with the Church of the Resurrection, a key Black Catholic congregation in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati.
