Ohio Launches Guaranteed Income Program for Single Mothers

In a groundbreaking move, Columbus, Ohio has introduced the Ohio Mothers Trust, a guaranteed income program providing 32 single mothers with $500 monthly payments for one year. This initiative, the first of its kind in the city, is designed to support families with incomes at or below 80% of the area median.
Funded by RISE Together Innovation Institute and UpTogether, the program aims to boost the financial stability and well-being of single mothers, empowering them to meet basic needs and invest in their futures. Mothers were selected through Motherful, a local collective that supports single-parent families. The program also aims to reduce childhood poverty’s long-term costs, estimated at $5.2 billion for Franklin County in 2021.
