As the battle for school funding continues across Ohio, several districts are making difficult financial decisions after voters rejected ballot measures aimed at covering operating expenses, new construction, and renovations.

In Avon Lake City Schools, officials have already announced higher pay-to-participate fees for athletics starting next school year. Additionally, Erieview Elementary the district’s lowest-enrolled school will close at the end of this school year.

One of the most significant changes is the dramatic tuition increase for all-day kindergarten, which will rise from $2,400 to $6,280 per year.

Kindergarten Costs Vary Across Ohio

While Ohio only requires half-day kindergarten, some districts charge tuition for all-day options. Cleveland Metropolitan School District and Akron Public Schools offer free all-day kindergarten, while other districts, such as Westlake City Schools, are keeping their tuition at $2,500 for the upcoming school year.

With state funding disparities playing a role, many families are left grappling with tough financial choices as schools adjust their budgets.
