For Paul Glader, music is more than just a subject, it’s a passion that he shares with his students every day. As the band and choir director at Bethel-Tate Middle School, he has played a pivotal role in growing the school’s music program, increasing student participation from 25% to 55%. His ability to connect with students and ignite their love for music has now earned him national recognition.

Sixth-grader Julia Butler is one of the many students inspired by Glader. She knew she wanted to play the flute, following a family tradition started by her mother and aunt. However, learning the instrument wasn’t easy at first. “I feel like the flute, at first, it’s really difficult trying to get the sound out of it,” Butler shared. But with Glader’s guidance, she found her rhythm, just like so many others in his classroom.

Glader, who has been teaching for 15 years, says his students are the driving force behind his passion. “I was just thinking to myself, there’s my why, you know, there’s why I do it,” he said.
