Dave Thomas Foundation Program Helps 15,000 Children Find Adoptive Homes

The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption is celebrating a major milestone: its signature program, Wendy’s Wonderful Kids, has helped find permanent, loving homes for more than 15,000 children and youth in foster care across the U.S. and Canada since 2004. Of these, nearly 12,300 adoptions have occurred since the program began expanding in 2012.
This means 15,000 children—like Pippa, Marisol, and siblings Isaiah, Jordan, and Sophia—no longer have to wonder if they will age out of foster care without a family.
“Today, we celebrate the collective impact of our caring community, including foster and adoptive parents, adoption professionals, partners, and donors. Together, we will continue to make a difference in the lives of children and teenagers who need us most,” said Rita Soronen, President & CEO of the Foundation.
What Makes Wendy’s Wonderful Kids Different?
The program funds adoption recruiters who focus on finding families for the longest-waiting children in foster care. A five-year evaluation by Child Trends found that children served by the program are up to three times more likely to be adopted.
