Following Superintendent Iranetta Wright’s resignation from Cincinnati Public Schools, Shauna Murphy, who currently serves as the Chief of Student, Family, and Community Engagement, has been appointed as the interim superintendent by the Cincinnati Board of Education during its meeting on Monday.
Shauna Murphy, the newly appointed interim superintendent of Cincinnati Public Schools (CPS), expressed a mix of emotions upon her announcement, including humility, gratefulness, and excitement. With over a decade of experience at CPS, including serving as a principal at Woodward Career Technical High School, Murphy is well-equipped to face the challenges ahead.
She will be supported by Dr. Alesia Smith, who will serve as interim deputy superintendent. Both Murphy and Smith are ready to work together to address the district’s budget cuts and make necessary decisions. Wright’s resignation followed a vote of no confidence from all six CPS unions, citing communication and collaboration issues. Despite her resignation, Wright will receive her current salary until the end of her contract in 2025.
