Angie Hamberg has been appointed as the new permanent superintendent of Westerville City Schools following Joe Clark’s resignation less than five months into his tenure. Hamberg, who had been serving as interim superintendent during Clark’s departure, was unanimously voted into the role. Her contract extends until July 2027. School Board President Kristy Meyer noted Hamberg’s proactive contributions, including advancing the district’s strategic plan, which was approved during the meeting.
Angie Hamberg was warmly welcomed by board member Nancy Nestor-Baker, expressing confidence in her leadership as the new superintendent of Westerville City Schools. Following the meeting, Hamberg emphasized the significance of immediately engaging with the district’s strategic plan, which has helped her align with ongoing district priorities. She highlighted the importance of administrators staying attuned to community needs, student requirements, and effectively allocating resources within the district.
Angie Hamberg emphasized the need for cohesive direction across Westerville’s 24 schools, stressing collaborative efforts among staff from all buildings. Board President Kristy Meyer had previously indicated that Hamberg was likely to be chosen as the next superintendent.
Angie Hamberg, with 20 years of administrative experience, has a background that includes roles as a high-quality instructional materials specialist and certified executive leadership coach at the Educational Service Center of Central Ohio. She previously served as superintendent at Big Walnut Local Schools from 2015 to 2022 and held assistant superintendent positions before that.
Hamberg has also worked in teaching and administrative capacities at Johnstown-Monroe Local Schools and Northridge Local Schools. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in education from Ashland University, her master’s degree in educational administration from Ashland University, and completed superintendent licensure coursework at Ohio State University.
Angie Hamberg’s contract as superintendent includes a base salary starting at $235,000 annually, with a 3% increase each year contingent upon a satisfactory performance review by the school board. Additionally, she is eligible for a yearly performance bonus of up to 3% of her salary, subject to the board’s discretion.
For the upcoming school year, Hamberg could earn a $7,050 bonus. Her base salary is lower than that of Randy Banks, superintendent of South-Western City School District, who earns $265,000 annually. Despite overseeing a district with approximately 7,000 more students, Banks earns more than Hamberg. Her base salary is comparable to Robert Hunt, superintendent of Upper Arlington, who started last year with a $230,000 base salary.
