National Principals Month: A New Chapter, Hubbard’s First-Year Principal is Building a Culture of Equity

Kendra McGaughy has taken on the role of principal at Hubbard Elementary, bringing a wealth of experience and a focus on equity in education. Her leadership training from the Wallace Foundation CCS/Ashland Grant Principal Pipeline equips her with unique insights and a strong commitment to community engagement and student success. Area Superintendent Dr. Keith Harris expressed excitement about her appointment, highlighting McGaughy’s background in instructional coaching and her goal of fostering an enriching learning environment where every child can thrive.

Kendra McGaughy began her career as a teacher at Fair Arts IMPACT Alternative School and later worked at Linden STEM Academy for nine years, where she excelled in early literacy, student relationships, and creating positive learning environments. This experience led her to a Leadership Internship and ultimately her current position as principal at Hubbard Elementary. Emma Corbin, a leadership coach, praised McGaughy’s academic coaching background and her commitment to collaborating with staff to enhance student achievement. McGaughy’s dedication to educational leadership is further demonstrated by her participation in the Equity Centered Principal Initiative, aimed at fostering inclusive learning environments and advancing equity in the district.

Emma Corbin highlighted the positive impact of the Wallace grant, showcasing Kendra McGaughy as a product of investment in future leaders who are equipped to tackle educational challenges while promoting equity. In her first year as principal, McGaughy’s goals include supporting staff, continuing successful initiatives, and fostering a collaborative school culture. She aims to engage more community partners and reestablish Hubbard Elementary as a key resource in Victorian Village. McGaughy emphasizes the school’s historical significance and believes it’s vital to excite the community about supporting Hubbard, aiming to make it a model of educational excellence and engagement.
