Nine-Year-Old in Ohio Brightens Holidays for Hospital Children with Teddy Bear Drive
In central Ohio, a nine-year-old is on a heartfelt mission to bring joy to children during the holiday season, one teddy bear at a time. Jack, a local elementary student, has transformed his family’s home into what he affectionately calls “Teddy Bear HQ,” where plush toys now fill every corner.
Over the past month, Jack has collected hundreds of stuffed bears that he plans to donate to young patients spending the holidays at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. His initiative, called Jack’s Bravery Bears, is designed to help children feel braver during their hospital stays.
“It all started when our family volunteered last year making blankets for kids at Nationwide,” Jack explained. “While helping out, I thought; wouldn’t the kids love a teddy bear to go with their blanket?” That idea led to his first teddy bear drive, which brought in an impressive 445 bears.
This year, Jack has set his sights even higher, aiming to collect 500 bears. Neighbors, church members, classmates, and community volunteers have all rallied behind him. Boxes and bags of bears continue to arrive at Teddy Bear HQ, filling the space to capacity.
But for Jack, the growing collection is secondary to the joy the bears will bring. “They’re going to be so happy,” he said with a wide smile.
Later this month, Jack and his family plan to deliver the bears to Nationwide Children’s Hospital, spreading comfort and cheer to children who may be facing challenging times.
Those wishing to support Jack’s mission can contribute through his GoFundMe, which helps purchase custom “Jack’s Bravery Bears.” Each donation, the family says, helps place “a bear and a bit of joy into the arms of a child who needs it most.”
Jack’s efforts reflect a remarkable generosity for a child of his age, showing how one simple idea can blossom into a movement that touches countless lives.
