Child Abuse Prevention Month Kicks Off in Logan County, Ohio with Community Push for Child Protection Awareness
The kickoff ceremony marking Child Abuse Prevention Month in Logan County, Ohio brought together community leaders, advocates, and families in a coordinated effort to raise awareness about child protection and strengthen local safeguarding systems.
The event, hosted at Lutheran Community Services and organized by Logan County Children’s Services, emphasized the shared responsibility of the community in preventing child abuse and neglect.
During the ceremony, Executive Director Erica James highlighted the agency’s ongoing commitment to prevention-driven interventions, stressing the importance of early identification of risks and community collaboration in protecting vulnerable children.
Foster parents Jonathan and Erin Griffiths also shared their experiences, shedding light on the critical role of safe and stable home environments in supporting children who have experienced abuse or neglect.
Local officials, including Logan County Commissioner Greg Fitzpatrick, formally recognized April as Child Abuse Prevention Month through an official proclamation, reinforcing institutional support for child welfare initiatives. Community advocate Wayne Harris delivered a personal account that underscored the importance of adult engagement in the lives of children, particularly those at risk of harm or without adequate support systems.
Following the ceremony, participants gathered at the Logan County Courthouse, where 452 pinwheels were placed on the lawn to symbolize the number of children served by county services in 2025. The visual display served as a reminder of the scale of need and the collective responsibility to protect children.
Authorities and organizers urged residents to remain vigilant, recognize the signs of abuse and neglect, and report concerns promptly. The event reinforced that sustained community awareness, reporting, and engagement are essential to ensuring children grow up in safe, supportive, and nurturing environments.
