Five Children Found Living in Boarded-Up Dayton Home Without Power

Five children between the ages of 4 and 12 have been placed in the custody of Montgomery County Children’s Services after police found them living without food or electricity inside a boarded-up property in Dayton, Ohio.

Dayton police officers were called to the property in the 3500 block of Delphos Avenue on the afternoon of October 1 to conduct a welfare check. According to police, the property had previously been identified as a “nuisance abated” location.

When officers arrived, they found the five children inside the building, with no adults present. Authorities said the children were living without electricity and food, raising immediate concerns about their safety and welfare.

First responders took the children to Dayton Children’s Hospital for medical evaluations before they were placed in the care of Montgomery County Children’s Services.

The Dayton Police Department’s Care House Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the children’s living conditions. As of October 5, authorities had not announced any criminal charges connected to the incident.

The discovery comes months after 16 children were found living in what officials described as “deplorable” conditions at a home in Vinton County, another Ohio case that raised concerns about child welfare and safeguarding.

The latest incident highlights the importance of welfare checks and early intervention when children may be living in unsafe conditions. Authorities have not disclosed further details about the children’s family circumstances while the investigation continues.
