Ohio Children to Benefit as Women’s Fund Renews $265,000 Grant to Strengthen Childcare Services

Children and families across Central Ohio are expected to benefit from improved access to quality early childhood education following the renewal of a $265,000 grant to Action for Children.

The Women’s Fund of Central Ohio announced the funding renewal for a second year to strengthen childcare services while supporting the financial stability of women working in the sector.

According to a report by WSYX on 18 October 2026, the investment seeks to address challenges affecting childcare providers, including low wages and high staff turnover, which can disrupt children’s early learning experiences.

Action for Children reports that women account for approximately 95% of Ohio’s early childhood education workforce, with many earning below a living wage.

Through its Child Development Associate credential programme, the organisation helps childcare professionals acquire the qualifications and skills needed to build sustainable careers and operate childcare businesses.

Kelley Griesmer, President and CEO of the Women’s Fund of Central Ohio, explained that the investment supports women’s economic independence while addressing childcare barriers that prevent parents from participating fully in employment.

Similarly, Tasha Booker, President and CEO of Action for Children, emphasised that improving childcare access begins with empowering educators who work directly with children.

For children, a stable and well-trained childcare workforce can mean more consistent care, stronger relationships with educators and better opportunities for early development.

The renewed funding also highlights the connection between supporting childcare professionals, strengthening families and creating nurturing environments where young children can learn and thrive.
