Ohio Recognizes April as Child Abuse Prevention Month

By Taiwo Akinlami

Throughout April, Ohio has joined states across the nation in observing Child Abuse Prevention Month. This awareness month shines a light on the critical issue of child abuse and neglect and encourages individuals, communities, and organizations to take action to prevent it.

The Importance of Prevention

Child abuse and neglect can have long-lasting and devastating effects on a child’s physical, emotional, and mental well-being. In Ohio, there were over 12,000 confirmed cases of child abuse and neglect in 2020 alone. This translates to a rate of 14.1 cases per 1,000 children. Prevention is key to ensuring the safety and well-being of Ohio’s children.
