Akron Public Schools Names Mary Outley as New Superintendent

Akron Public Schools has appointed Mary Outley as its new superintendent, following the immediate departure of Michael Robinson under a mutually agreed-upon separation with the district.
Outley, a 34-year veteran of the district, most recently served as the Executive Director of School Leadership. In a statement, Akron Board of Education President Carla Jackson praised Outley’s leadership, experience, and deep commitment to the district, saying her “strong relationships across the district will be invaluable as we move forward.”
Robinson’s exit comes after he was placed on leave amid allegations of bullying, intimidation, and retaliation against employees, based on a four-month independent investigation involving interviews with 16 current and former staff.
In accepting the role, Outley said, “I am committed to working with the Board of Education, educators, families, and community partners to strengthen our schools, support every student’s success, and build on the progress already underway.”
