Akron Public Schools Superintendent Placed on Leave Following Misconduct Allegations

Akron Public Schools has placed Superintendent Michael Robinson on administrative leave following the results of a four-month independent investigation into allegations of misconduct.
According to a statement released by the district, the investigation revealed multiple credible accounts of bullying, intimidation, and retaliation by Robinson against employees. These findings were supported by interviews with 16 current and former APS staff members, as well as additional witness testimony.
In a special meeting held Tuesday, the Akron Public Schools Board of Education determined that Robinson’s conduct violated the APS Code of Conduct. As a result, the board voted to place him on leave, effective immediately.
Ms. Mary Outley, a current APS employee, has been named interim superintendent while the district awaits a final decision on Robinson’s employment. That decision is expected to be made at the board’s next scheduled meeting on April 28.
In its statement, the Board of Education emphasized its continued commitment to creating a safe and supportive learning environment for students, staff, and administrators. The board also expressed appreciation to the APS community for its patience as the situation moves toward resolution.
