Austintown Local Schools to Discontinue Falcon Care Program After 2024-25 School Year

The Austintown Local School District has announced it will discontinue its Falcon Care program at the end of the 2024-25 school year. Parents were notified via text of the decision, which Superintendent Tim Kelty attributes to uncertainty surrounding proposed state budget cuts.
Kelty cited staffing challenges, noting the district has had four different preschool before-and-after-care supervisors in the past five years. With the most recent resignation in November, the district decided to focus its resources on the Falcon Fives Preschool instead.
Concerns stem from Ohio Governor Mike DeWine’s proposed budget cuts, which could impact public schools across the Mahoning Valley and beyond. Other local schools have also voiced concerns about the potential effects.
