The Avon Local School District has once again been recognized as one of the Best Communities for Music Education by the NAMM Foundation, earning the award for the second year in a row.

This national designation, now in its 26th year, is given to school districts that demonstrate an exceptional commitment to music education and ensure access to music for all students.

Victoria Lero, choir teacher and director at Avon Middle School, expressed her pride in the district’s achievement. “It is such an honor to have received the NAMM Best Community for Music Education Award for the second year in a row,” she said.

From Kindergarten through grade 12, we have so many opportunities for our students to experience music through our K-5 general music classes and then being able to participate in choir, orchestra, and band during grades 6-12.”

Avon’s grades 6-12 music program is an “opt-in” opportunity, yet participation remains high, with over 800 students currently involved in band, choir, and orchestra. Lero credits the strong support from the Avon community as a key factor in the success of the program.

We are lucky to have a community that supports music in our schools as much as the city of Avon does. Here’s to continuing to share the love of music and inspiring our young eagles to be as versatile as possible.”

To qualify for the award, the district completed a comprehensive survey covering funding, graduation requirements, student participation, instruction time, facilities, and community support for music education. The responses were verified by school officials and reviewed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.

The NAMM Foundation, a nonprofit supported in part by the National Association of Music Merchants and its global membership, advocates for lifelong participation in music through research, philanthropic efforts, and public service programs. Avon’s recognition reflects its ongoing dedication to cultivating a strong and inclusive music education program for all students.
