A dangerous incident involving two juvenile boys playing with gasoline ended with one arrested and the other hospitalized with severe burns over the weekend.

Around 8:30 p.m. Saturday in Tremont City, located at the north edge of Clark County, the boys reportedly obtained gasoline from an unknown source, poured it on each other, and attempted to ignite it, according to Lt. Kris Shultz of the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Chris Clark confirmed that one boy suffered second- and third-degree burns. He was first treated by German Township EMS before being transferred to Dayton Children’s Hospital. His injuries, while serious, are not believed to be life-threatening.

A chilling 911 call captured the aftermath, with a caller stating: “I need a medic … He got burned on his back really bad … him and his brother were playing with gasoline and fire,” while the injured child could be heard crying and yelling in the background.

Due to the intentional nature of the gasoline use and ignition, one juvenile was arrested and charged with felonious assault and aggravated arson. He is currently being held at the Juvenile Detention Center.

The Tremont City Police Department initially responded to the scene but has since handed over the investigation to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.
