Children Spotlight of the Week: Ava Faiella – A Passionate Advocate for Alzheimer’s Awareness
Ava Faiella, a dedicated student at St. Francis DeSales High School in Columbus, Ohio, is a shining example of leadership, compassion, and academic excellence. With a love for science and language arts, Ava excels in her studies while making significant contributions to her community.
As the president and founder of the Saint Francis DeSales Alzheimer Awareness Club, Ava is committed to raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s research and support.
Ava’s involvement in her school and community is extensive. She is an active member of the volleyball and swimming teams and participates in the drama club/theater. Her leadership skills extend beyond the school grounds as she serves as a seventh-grade girls volleyball coach for St. Paul Catholic School.
Additionally, Ava volunteers at the Ganzhorn Suites Memory Care Center, where she gains firsthand experience in supporting individuals with memory-related conditions.
Her dedication to academic excellence is evident through her membership in the National Honor Society and the Spanish National Honor Society.
Ava’s passion for learning and helping others drives her ambition to study neuroscience at Ohio State University, where she plans to further her understanding of the brain and contribute to advancements in the field.
One of Ava’s most significant contributions is her work with the Saint Francis DeSales Alzheimer Awareness Club. The club is actively raising money to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association, a cause close to the hearts of many in the DeSales community.
“So many friends and family members of students and faculty in the DeSales community are affected by Alzheimer’s Disease. The members of our club are working to raise money and bring awareness to the impacts of this disease,” Ava explains.
The Alzheimer’s Association is a leading organization dedicated to ending Alzheimer’s and all other dementias. They accelerate global research, drive risk reduction and early detection, and maximize quality care and support for those affected by these conditions.
