Dayton Public Schools (DPS) will transition to a remote learning day on Wednesday in response to expected early morning freezing temperatures, the district announced Tuesday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, wind chill values are predicted to range from 0 to 10 below zero into Wednesday morning, with a combination of very cold temperatures and wind.

“We understand that too many calamity days can negatively impact student learning,” DPS stated in a social media post. “Therefore, we are opting to hold a remote learning day to allow students to remain at home and continue learning through at-home work.”

Key Details:

  • All DPS employees are expected to report from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., unless otherwise directed by their supervisor.
  • DPS buildings will remain open, and families may contact the main office if needed.

This decision follows three closure days last week due to heavy snowfall, ensuring minimal disruption to students’ education while prioritizing their safety.
