Dozens of Ohio Students Hospitalized After Sudden Illness Forces School Evacuations

At an Ohio school district, classes came to an abrupt halt when both the middle school and high school were evacuated after dozens of students suddenly fell ill.
First responders rushed to the scene as students reported symptoms including headaches, nausea, dizziness, tingling in their hands and feet, and lightheadedness.
School officials confirmed that about 30 students were transported to area hospitals for further evaluation. Ashland County Sheriff Kurt Schneider explained that while the symptoms were similar to possible carbon monoxide exposure, investigators were not ruling anything out.
Specialists began assessing the schools’ water systems, HVAC systems, and other infrastructure to pinpoint the cause. Columbia Gas of Ohio confirmed the incident was not related to natural gas.
The investigation continues, but this event serves as a reminder of how quickly children’s lives can be put at risk in spaces meant to nurture and protect them. Every child has the right to learn in an environment that safeguards their health, well-being, and future.
