A former employee of Nationwide Children’s Hospital and Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center has admitted guilt to charges of possessing child pornography and paying a sex offender to produce child sexual abuse material.

Ryan C. Ramos, a 38-year-old registered nurse from Columbus, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to charges of distributing, receiving, and possessing child pornography. He worked at Nationwide Children’s Hospital from 2018 to 2020 and subsequently at the burn trauma intensive care unit at OSU Wexner Medical Center until 2023.

In 2020, the FBI’s Brooklyn-Queens office investigated a group utilizing the messaging app Signal for exchanging child pornography, it was revealed that Ramos’s participation in the group was uncovered as part of that investigation. Ramos shared both images and videos  numbering in the hundreds  of child sexual abuse material involving young boys and infants, court records state.

Further investigation revealed that Ramos paid over $500 to a sexual offender in New York City via PayPal for child pornographic material in 2018. Court records indicate that Ramos’s iPhone, seized by authorities, contained over 345,000 messages on Signal, Telegram, and other online messengers.

Ramos pleaded guilty in federal court on Tuesday through a bill of information and awaits sentencing. He could face a prison term of five to 20 years. Currently in custody, Ramos will remain so until his sentencing hearing, which is yet to be scheduled.
