From Student to Champion: Bowsher High Teen Wins Third National Boxing Title

When Shi’Ayr Harris, a freshman at Bowsher High School, first stepped into the ring, it was a way to manage her anger. Today, it’s her path to greatness.
At just 14 years old, Harris is already a three-time national champion and three-time Toledo Golden Gloves winner, and she’s just getting started.
“When I’m in the ring, I only think about one thing: how to win,” Harris said.
In just a few years, Harris has climbed to the #1 spot in the country, switching gyms, training relentlessly, and listening closely to her coach’s calls for hard work and focus. But it hasn’t been without challenges, from navigating high school life to figuring out who she is, in and out of the ring.
“I always feel like I’m in the spotlight, so I watch everything I do,” she shared. That self-awareness and discipline have helped her rise fast.
To young girls looking to box, Harris has this advice:
“Focus mainly on yourself, in the ring, we’re alone. Work on what you can do to get better.”
Next up for this rising star: the Junior Olympics next month. And with her focus, drive, and heart, she’s one to watch.
