Lorain City Schools to Bring All Transportation Services In-House

Lorain City School District is working to fully internalize its student transportation services by the end of the 2025-2026 school year. For over a decade, the district relied on private companies to transport homeless students, students with special needs, and those involved in after-school programs.
Superintendent Jeff Graham said the district is making the shift due to increasing costs and longer pickup distances. The change is expected to save the district up to $1 million annually, helping offset a recent $10 million annual funding gap.
“This is the most respectful thing for our taxpayers,” Graham noted.
While a few privatized routes will remain this school year, all contracts are set to expire by year’s end. As part of the transition, the district is also adjusting school start and end times, not only to improve efficiency but to better support students’ uninterrupted access to education and learning opportunities.
