Man Gets Up to 28 Years in Prison for Fatally Shooting 15-Year-Old Daughter

A Dayton man has been sentenced to more than two decades in prison for the shooting death of his 15-year-old daughter earlier this year.
Kenneth Paul Farler III, 39, was sentenced this week by Montgomery County Common Pleas Court Judge E. Gerald Parker Jr. to a maximum of 23 to 28 and a half years in prison. He was convicted on one count each of involuntary manslaughter, endangering children, and reckless homicide, along with 12 counts of having weapons while under disability.
The charges stem from an incident on April 14, 2024, when Dayton police responded to a shooting at an apartment in the 400 block of Bowen Street. There, they found Farler’s daughter, Kendra Mae Farler, had been shot in the chest with a shotgun. Officers attempted CPR, but she died from her injuries.
According to court documents, Farler’s wife and three other children were visiting the apartment at the time of the shooting. Initially, Farler told police that his 15-year-old autistic and nonverbal stepson was responsible. However, investigators later determined that the account was false.
Farler eventually admitted to the shooting, claiming it was an accident. But police dispute that account, citing witness statements and behavior leading up to the incident.
