Metal Detector Flags Student Carrying Gun at Chaney Middle School
A student at Chaney Middle School was caught with a gun on campus Friday morning after setting off the metal detector at the entrance, according to school officials.
The school resource officer immediately intervened, searched the student, and discovered the weapon. Officials confirmed that safety protocols were swiftly enacted, and the student was removed from the entrance while emergency procedures involving law enforcement were followed.
At no point did the gun make it past the front entrance, and no weapon was discharged, according to the school’s statement. Officials reassured families that the building remains secure and that student and staff safety is the district’s top priority.
