In Ohio, over $79 million is still available to help parents cover the costs of after-school programs. Keeyana Avery, a mother of three, emphasized the importance of accessibility and consistency in such programs, especially for working families who rely on them. She expressed hope that one day she will be able to access resources like the After School Child Enrichment (ACE) Program for her children.
Ohio’s state program allocated $125 million to help parents pay for extracurricular activities, offering up to $1,000 per child for qualifying families. However, nearly $79 million of the funds remain unused, with the program set to expire in September next year.
Some parents, like Keeyana Avery, believe that low awareness of the program is a key issue. Others suggest that better promotion and marketing could increase participation. Parent Audrey Hale emphasized that giving families more control over how the funds are used could make a significant impact.
