New Partnership Eliminates College Admissions Hurdles for Cleveland Metropolitan School District Students

For many students, the college application process can be overwhelming, especially for first-generation and low-income students. But a new partnership between Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) and Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) is making higher education more accessible.
Through this direct admissions program, eligible CMSD seniors are automatically admitted to Tri-C, removing application barriers and streamlining their transition to college.
Brianna Sponer, a senior at John Marshall High School, is already taking advantage of the opportunity. “It’s close by, it’s affordable, and it just made sense for me,” she said. Sponer plans to study nursing at Tri-C this fall, excited to pursue her passion for healthcare.
This initiative, which launched in December and has already enrolled 90 students, is the first of its kind in Ohio. Angela Johnson, Tri-C’s VP of Enrollment, emphasizes the program’s goal: “We’re helping students connect with the next level of education without the stress of traditional applications.”
