The Oberlin City School District is ushering in the 2025-26 academic year with fresh leadership and renewed commitment to student success, as it welcomes two new administrators to its team.

Elysia Augustine joins Oberlin High School as the new assistant principal, stepping into the role previously held by Micah Tomlin, who has been promoted to principal following the retirement of longtime administrator Brent Betts.

Augustine brings a strong educational background and a wealth of classroom experience to the position. She holds both a Bachelor of Science in adolescent/young adult integrated language arts and a master of Education in reading from Bowling Green State University. Before her appointment in Oberlin, she served as an English teacher and English Department curriculum leader at Garfield Heights High School.

Superintendent David Hall expressed confidence in the leadership transition: “We are excited to welcome Ms. Augustine to our leadership team at Oberlin High School. Her experience and dedication to student success make her a strong fit for our school community. And, we are pleased to see Dr. Tomlin step into the role of principal. Her guidance will ensure a smooth transition and continued growth at Oberlin High School.”

The district also announced Julian Acosta-Gorman as the new athletic director, following the departure of Danny Zillich, who has accepted a position with Independence Local Schools. Acosta-Gorman, a University of Cincinnati graduate with a degree in sports administration and a certificate in sports coaching, previously interned with the North Olmsted High School Athletic Department.

These appointments reflect the district’s broader vision of cultivating an inclusive and empowering educational environment where students can thrive in academics, arts, and athletics. At the heart of these changes lies a fundamental commitment: ensuring every child’s right to education and the opportunities that come with it.
