A deeply disturbing case has emerged in Montgomery County, where Matthew R. Hunt, a 49-year-old former school bus driver, has been indicted on 82 charges, including 17 counts of rape, 64 counts of sexual battery, and unlawful sexual conduct with a child.

Hunt worked for Northmont High School and six other school districts in Ohio, where he reportedly groomed and sexually abused boys he met through his job. He allegedly lured the affected students by offering them work at his business, which services pipe organs, then took advantage of them, even in locations such as churches and a camper he owned in Lima.

So far, nine affected children have been identified, but authorities believe there may be more. Hunt is being held without bond and is scheduled for arraignment on August 5. The Miami Valley Human Trafficking Task Force, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, and Clayton Police Department are continuing investigations.

This case is a horrifying reminder of the urgent need to protect children from those who misuse positions of trust and authority. It reflects a grave violation of the child’s right to protection from all forms of sexual exploitation and sexual abuse as guaranteed under international and national child protection laws.
