The Little Miami Board of Education in Warren County has voted 3-2 to reject a controversial policy that would have restricted the flags and symbols allowed in classrooms.
The proposed resolution, which opponents argued targeted LGBTQ+ Pride flags, sought to establish a “neutral policy” permitting only certain flags and symbols, such as the U.S. flag, Ohio flag, Little Miami flag, military and university banners, and flags representing foreign exchange students.
The policy faced significant pushback during its initial review on Dec. 17. Katherine Ruck, a pediatrician from Maineville, spoke out against the resolution, emphasizing the need for inclusivity and acceptance in schools.
Critics applauded the board’s decision, viewing it as a victory for fostering a welcoming environment for all students, regardless of socioeconomic status, political views, neurodivergence, sexual orientation, race, or ethnicity.
