One Teen Dead, One Injured in Cleveland Shooting Incident

A tragic shooting in Cleveland Thursday evening has left one teenager dead and another injured, in a clear violation of children’s fundamental rights to life and safety from physical violence.
According to Cleveland Public Information Officer Wilfredo Diaz, officers from the Cleveland Police Third District responded just before 7 p.m. to reports of gunfire near the 2500 block of East 49th Street.
They found two teenage boys, one approximately 15 and the other 16 years old, suffering from gunshot wounds. Cleveland EMS transported both to the hospital, but tragically, the 16-year-old was later pronounced dead.
This incident underscores the urgent need to protect children from violence in our communities. Under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, every child has the inherent right to life and must be protected from all forms of physical or mental violence.
