Frigid temperatures and dangerous wind chills have settled into Northeast Ohio, prompting over 500 schools to announce closures for Tuesday and Wednesday. Wind chills are forecasted to remain below zero, with Tuesday expected to be the coldest day of the week. FOX 8 Meteorologists report that Wednesday morning wind chills will range from 15 to 25 degrees below zero.

The University of Akron was the first to respond, announcing remote work and learning for Tuesday. Stark State College, Cuyahoga Community College, and Lake Erie College also canceled Tuesday classes. Akron Public Schools led the way for K-12 closures, announcing the cancellation of both Tuesday and Wednesday classes “due to the extreme cold weather conditions.”

Canton City Schools and many others quickly followed suit. On Monday afternoon, the Cleveland Metropolitan School District announced all schools would be closed Tuesday, with a decision about Wednesday expected Tuesday afternoon.
