School Leaders Unite to Oppose District Consolidation Plans
Seven Fulton County school superintendents are uniting to push back against discussions of school consolidation. At a joint news conference, the leaders emphasized that their concern is not political, but rooted in protecting education and the communities they serve.
Archbold superintendent Dr. Jayson Selgo underscored the focus: “We’re not getting involved in politics. We’re looking at how this impacts education only.”
Wauseon superintendent Troy Armstrong confirmed that a joint letter shared publicly has prompted Senate President Rob McColley to open the door for dialogue, with meetings expected in the near future.
For his part, McColley made it clear he opposes forced consolidation, noting the importance of schools as cornerstones of small towns.
“Their school is a piece of their identity, their pride, their history, and their tradition,” he said, stressing that any such changes should remain a local decision. Superintendents also pointed to the financial strain on taxpayers as funding shifts create added pressure.
While the next steps remain uncertain, one message is clear: schools are more than buildings; they are vital to the well-being of children, families, and communities. Protecting a child’s right to learn in a supportive, stable environment must remain at the heart of every policy decision.
