This week, we shine the spotlight on Dr. Celia Williamson, an extraordinary force in the fight against human trafficking and an unwavering advocate for the welfare of vulnerable children and adults. With over 25 years of dedication to combating domestic human trafficking and prostitution, Dr. Williamson’s impact is both profound and far-reaching.
Dr. Williamson is a Distinguished Professor of Social Work at the University of Toledo and the Executive Director of the Human Trafficking and Social Justice Institute. She has made monumental contributions to research, education, and advocacy in the field of human trafficking. Her work has been recognized globally, earning her a place among the top 30 most influential social workers alive today, ranking 26th.
Her research focuses on domestic minor sex trafficking, prostitution, and vulnerable women, leading to groundbreaking insights that have shaped policies and programs across the U.S. She has conducted nine major studies, authored 19 articles and reports, and edited two influential books on sex trafficking.
In 2022, Dr. Williamson joined the prestigious G100, a global collective of 100 women recognized for transforming the world. As the global wing against human trafficking, she continues to lead initiatives that provide hope and justice for countless victims.

Dr. Williamson chairs the Research and Analysis Subcommittee for the Ohio Attorney General’s Human Trafficking Commission and serves as Editorial Manager for the Journal of Human Trafficking. She has delivered over 200 presentations and served as keynote speaker for more than 20 conferences.
