Born in Pakistan and now residing in Grove City, Ohio, Mrs. Abid’s life is a testament to hard work, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to community service.
Educational Background
Mrs. Abid holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Karachi and earned a degree, summa cum laude, in Communications from North Carolina State University in 2000. Her academic achievements laid a strong foundation for her multifaceted career.
Career and Community Involvement
Mrs. Abid’s career has been diverse and impactful. She has experience as a small business owner, journalist, and nonprofit founder. Before founding My Project USA in Columbus’ Hilltop neighborhood in 2014, Mrs. Abid worked as a journalist in North Carolina and in the business sector, where she created an internet technology and media company and organized international expositions in Karachi, Pakistan.
My Project USA
My Project USA, founded by Mrs. Abid, has rapidly expanded over the years and is a cornerstone of youth-related activities in the Hilltop neighborhood. The organization offers after-school programs, the Hilltop Tigers soccer program, and a youth center and food pantry on Sullivant Avenue. These initiatives aim to empower and uplift the local youth, providing them with opportunities for growth and development.
Political Aspirations
Mrs. Abid also ventured into politics, running for election to the U.S. House to represent Ohio’s 15th Congressional District. As a Democratic Party candidate, she participated in the Democratic primary on March 19, 2024. Although she did not win the primary, her campaign highlighted key issues and brought attention to the needs of her community.
Personal Life
Mrs. Abid immigrated to the U.S. from Pakistan in 1995 with her two daughters, joining her husband who was already in the country. Their third daughter was born in the U.S. This personal journey of immigration and integration has deeply influenced her work and dedication to helping others, particularly in immigrant and underserved communities.
