The Impact of Dismantling the U.S. Department of Education on Ohio School Districts

As President Donald Trump continues discussing plans to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education, Ohio educators are sounding the alarm over potential losses in federal funding that many school districts depend on.
Trump has suggested issuing an executive order targeting the department and even told his education secretary nominee, Linda McMahon, to “put herself out of a job.” However, dismantling a federal agency requires congressional approval.
Ohio Education Association President Scott DiMauro warned that eliminating the department would hit the state’s most vulnerable students hardest.
“Students in poverty and students with disabilities are the ones who are most at risk of losing the support they need to succeed,” DiMauro said.
