A Lorain woman is dead, and her teenage son now faces a murder charge. Police responded to the 1500 block of West 24th Street at 6:45 a.m. Sunday, after receiving a call about an unresponsive woman.

Melinda Green, 45, of Lorain, was discovered inside her home with a fatal gunshot wound to the head. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators identified her 16-year-old son responsible for shooting his mother. He had left the residence before officers arrived, but was later located walking on the city’s west side. Police arrested him that same day.

The teen has been charged with murder and is currently being held at the Lorain County Juvenile Detention Home. Authorities have not released his name due to his age.

While the case is under investigation, it is important to note that as a juvenile, the affected child has the right to due process, legal representation, and protections under juvenile justice law, ensuring that proceedings account for both accountability and his status as a child.
