Children Spotlight of the Week: Meera Biswa – Watkins Memorial High School
This week, we proudly shine the spotlight on Meera Biswa, a remarkable student from Watkins Memorial High School in Pataskala, Ohio. Meera has earned the prestigious 2024 Junior Woman of Achievement Award, a testament to her outstanding contributions both in and beyond her school community.
An AP Scholar and National Honor Society member, Meera is not only known for her academic excellence but also for her deep sense of responsibility to her community. She plays in her school’s marching band and has devoted much of her time to humanitarian work with the Bhutanese Community of Central Ohio. Through her efforts, she has helped resettling refugees secure Medicaid and food assistance, addressing vital needs for new members of the community.
In addition to her work with refugees, Meera’s leadership extends to mental health awareness. She played a critical role in organizing a pioneering mental health conference for immigrant youth, a project that highlights her passion for supporting young people facing challenges in their new environments.
Meera’s tireless advocacy, particularly in the realm of mental health, has earned her the 2024 Junior Woman of Achievement Award, along with a $1,000 scholarship. Her impact on both her school and the broader community sets a shining example for young people everywhere.
