A Delaware County woman has been sentenced to 42 years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple charges of child abuse while operating an in-home daycare.
Rhonda Coomes, 55, admitted to 14 counts of endangering children, including a 10-month-old infant, at her daycare in Radnor. Her sentence amounts to the maximum penalty of three years per charge. As part of a plea agreement, three counts of kidnapping were dropped.
The investigation, which spanned from January 2021 to September 2023, was initiated after anonymous complaints of potential abuse were reported to the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office. Coomes was arrested in January 2024 following evidence that included a disturbing video.
The footage showed Coomes striking a 10-month-old girl multiple times in the face with her hand and hitting her six times with a hard plastic diaper wipe container, resulting in a black eye.
