Ohio State Erupts as Hundreds Demand Wexner Name Stripped Over Epstein Ties, Citing Child Safety Concerns

Hundreds of Ohio State University students, alumni, and community members walked out Friday demanding the university remove Les Wexner’s name from multiple campus buildings, framing their protest as an issue of child protection and institutional accountability.
The demonstration, organized by the Columbus Revolutionary Student Union, focused on Wexner’s past association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Although a 2019 FBI document described Wexner as an alleged co-conspirator, it also noted there was limited evidence of his involvement. Wexner has denied any wrongdoing and was recently deposed by members of Congress regarding his relationship with Epstein.
For protesters, however, the issue extends beyond legal thresholds. Speakers argued that institutions responsible for educating and safeguarding young adults must uphold the highest ethical standards in the individuals they honor. They contend that continuing to display Wexner’s name on prominent facilities — including the university’s medical center, arts center, and football complex — sends a troubling message about whose reputations are protected and whose harms are prioritized.
Former Ohio State wrestler Mike DiSabato criticized what he described as a culture that values financial contributions over moral clarity. Student speakers echoed concerns that large donations should not outweigh the university’s duty to stand firmly against exploitation and abuse.
As of Friday, the university had received more than 400 formal requests to remove Wexner’s name but has taken no action. Under a 2022 policy, name removal requests must undergo a five-step review process, with the Board of Trustees holding final authority.
Protesters say their walkout was meant to amplify calls for transparency, survivor-centered leadership, and a campus culture that places safeguarding above donor influence.
