Ohio Launches Bold Fatherhood Initiative to Protect Children and Strengthen Families

COLUMBUS, OHIO — The Ohio Department of Children and Youth (DCY) has announced a new partnership with the national fatherhood program All Pro Dad, aimed at strengthening families and safeguarding children across the state.
Governor Mike DeWine highlighted the importance of fathers in children’s lives, saying, “Strong families are the foundation of strong communities, and fathers play an irreplaceable role in their children’s lives.” The initiative will provide fathers with tools, resources, and education to help them remain an engaged and consistent presence in their children’s upbringing.
Research shows that children with involved fathers experience better academic outcomes, improved health, and reduced interaction with the justice system. The Responsible Fatherhood initiative, which supports this partnership, seeks to create safe and nurturing environments for children, reducing risks of neglect, abuse, and social harm.
DCY Director Kara Wente explained that programs like the All Pro Dad School Chapter Program and the All Pro Dad Experience offer structured opportunities for fathers to connect with their children, model positive behaviours, and foster emotional security. The statewide “Win the Everyday” campaign, launched on March 16, complements these efforts through social media, digital platforms, and community outreach.
Tony Dungy, co-founder of All Pro Dad, emphasised the significance of presence over perfection, noting that consistent parental involvement sends a powerful message to children about their value and safety.
The initiative will expand existing programs in Ohio, including 30 All Pro Dad school chapters, and host the All Pro Dad Experience at The Ohio State University Woody Hayes Athletic Center on June 15, ahead of Father’s Day. State leaders, including Senate President Rob McColley, praised the program as a long-term investment in children’s safety, development, and family stability.
This partnership positions Ohio as a leader in fatherhood engagement and child safeguarding, recognising that strong, supported parents are central to protecting children and fostering resilient communities.
