Saturday, April 27, 2024’s Volunteer Luncheon, hosted by Franklin County Children’s Services at The Gallery at Champions, was a vibrant celebration of commitment and mentorship. From the opening notes by the Tantalizing Tigers Saxophone group to the closing beats of an Ugandan Dance Group, the event titled “Building the Foundation of Mentorship” was a testament to the transformative power of dedicated service.
Daryle Cobb, the Associate Director of Volunteers and Child Enrichment, opened the program, setting the stage for what would be a heartfelt acknowledgment of tireless community service. Chip Spinning, the Executive Director of Franklin County Children Services, followed with welcoming statements that underscored the importance of the day’s proceedings.
Mrs. Gabriela Edon, the driving force behind Girls L.E.A.P., captivated the audience as the keynote speaker, sharing inspiring narratives of empowerment and resilience, reminding us all the profound influence mentorship can have on young lives.
Recognition of the volunteers was a pivotal part of the luncheon, with each awardee being introduced by different esteemed members of the community, underscoring the unique contributions of each individual. Norman Brown, affectionately known as Simba, received accolades for his remarkable 35 years of service. His introduction drew admiration and applause, honoring his unwavering dedication to nurturing young minds.
Tanya Johnson of Malaika was another esteemed honoree, celebrated for her 30 years of steadfast commitment to mentorship. Her introduction reminded the attendees of her enduring impact and the deep roots she has grown in the community.
The ceremony proceeded to honor Janet George and Patti Aronhalt, both of whom have devoted 20 years to enrich lives, each introduced by colleagues who spoke to their passion and contributions. With every name called, from those who served 15 years like Claude Russell III to those reaching the 10-year milestone like Nicole Ford and Peyton Watts, the event painted a picture of a community interwoven with dedication and care. Each introduction was a new story, a new chapter in the legacy of Franklin County Children Services.
The luncheon closed with words from Eboni Partlow, the Director of Volunteers and Child Enrichment, who herself reflects the day’s theme—building strong foundations for the future. It was a day where honor and inspiration were served in equal measure, each awardee standing as a beacon, lighting the way for future mentors to follow in their admirable footsteps.
