In response to increasing concerns about school safety and recent incidents like the Georgia school shooting, Palarum, a technology company based in Lebanon, is applying its innovations to enhance safety. Known for developing technology for healthcare, Palarum created a “smart sock” designed for fall prevention. This sock, embedded with conductive yarn and sensors, detects when a patient gets out of bed. The system includes a smart badge that alerts nearby healthcare workers in real time, helping to quickly address any issues.
Palarum has created a smart badge system for teachers and staff that can issue different levels of alerts: one click for assistance, two clicks for a suspicious person, and a long press for an active threat. This system helps initiate lockdowns and notify emergency services. After successful trials with a local school and law enforcement, Palarum aims to improve safety in educational settings, responding to increasing school threats and recent shootings.
Law enforcement officials emphasize that real-time information from Palarum’s smart badge system significantly aids their response efforts. Officer Brian Buchanan notes that having precise location data reduces response time and helps quickly assess situations, ultimately saving lives.
