Gender-Affirming Medications to Be Discontinued at Nationwide Children’s

Nationwide Children’s Hospital has announced it will stop prescribing gender-affirming medication to patients beginning September 26.

While affirming that it remains compliant with current regulations, the hospital explained its decision as a proactive measure to navigate a “rapidly changing regulatory environment.”

In its statement, the hospital emphasized that it will work closely with affected patients to end prescriptions with patient safety as the top priority. Nationwide Children’s also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting families by continuing behavioral health services and other necessary care.

This announcement comes shortly after a Franklin County judge upheld HB 68, also known as the SAFE Act, which prohibits gender transition care for children under 18. The law had been vetoed by Gov. Mike DeWine but was reinstated after the state legislature overrode his decision.

At the heart of this development is that every child has the right to the highest attainable standard of health, including access to healthcare.
