National Recognition: Powell Student Wins Top Prize in C-SPAN Contest

C-SPAN has announced that Benjamin Kurian, a student from Powell, is a first-place winner in the network’s 21st annual StudentCam competition. Kurian’s documentary, The Road to Vision Zero, explores how artificial intelligence can enhance road safety through improved car safety systems, driver awareness, and smart highway technology.
Kurian will receive a $3,000 prize, and his documentary will air on C-SPAN on April 19 at 6:50 a.m. ET and throughout the day.
C-SPAN also recognizes Aaron Rothey, an educator at Kurian’s school, for serving as an adviser in the competition.
StudentCam 2024 challenged middle and high school students to create documentaries addressing the theme: “Your Message to the President: What issue is most important to you or your community?” This year, over 1,700 entries were submitted by nearly 3,500 students from 42 states and Washington, D.C.
