Ohio GOP Lawmaker Stripped of Committee Roles After Allegations of Sexual Misconduct With Child

Republican State Representative Rodney Creech has been removed from his committee assignments, including his chairmanship of the House Agriculture Committee, following a disturbing investigation by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) into allegations of sexual misconduct involving an underage family member.
According to BCI records, Creech was accused of inappropriately touching the child multiple times and climbing into bed with the child while visibly aroused.
Although no criminal charges were ultimately filed, Creech admitted to investigators that he had occasionally gotten into bed with the child but denied any wrongdoing.
The original report was filed with Preble County Sheriff Michael Simpson in summer 2023. Simpson, citing a conflict of interest due to a long-standing relationship with Creech, himself a former Preble County commissioner, referred the case to the Ohio Attorney General’s Special Prosecutions Unit.
The case was ultimately handled by Clark County Prosecutor Daniel Driscoll after multiple local prosecutors recused themselves.
Speaker of the House Matt Huffman, a Republican from Lima, acted this week by stripping Creech of his roles, though he has not called for his resignation.
Creech responded, calling the investigation a “political smear piece” and vowing legal action, claiming, “These allegations are demonstrably false… Like President Trump, I am no stranger to false media attacks.”
